Atlanta Fresh 48 Photography: What Is It?

Have you heard someone refer to a ‘Fresh 48’ or ‘First 48’ session and wondered what it meant?

Simply put, Fresh 48 or First 48 refers to a type of newborn photography session completed within the first 48 hours of a newborn’s life; usually before a family leaves the birth location.

Fresh 48 sessions are relaxed and easygoing, with an emphasis on capturing moments of bonding between a new family and all those little newborn details!

Most Fresh 48 sessions happen the day after delivery, before a family is discharged from one of our Atlanta area hospitals. As such, Fresh 48 sessions are usually filled with beautiful, natural light!

Because Fresh 48 sessions put a little space between labor and delivery, they give everyone a chance to rest (this is relative with a newborn!) and freshen up a bit.

A lot of Fresh 48 mamas choose to wear a gown and robe from home to personalize their session, but if a Fresh 48 session happens the day of discharge (like this one!), we get a chance to capture everyone in their going home outfits!

Typically, a Fresh 48 session is a great time to bring out those big brother and big sister shirts to get some sweet pictures of everyone loving on the new baby. However, at the time of this writing, some of our Atlanta area hospitals have restricted visitation to the Mother/Baby floor based on visitor age. As a precaution against the spread of the flu, Kennestone, for example, is requiring that all visitors be no younger than 12 years old.

Under normal circumstances, any age sibling can visit his or her new baby, so until this restriction is lifted, Fresh 48 sessions will reflect a special time of bonding between parents and their newest addition!

Fresh 48 photography is a beautiful compliment to your birth photography session and included in all birth photography packages!
